Independent web studio

A website should earn its keep.

Benjamin Kane designs, builds, and looks after sites for independent businesses — cafés, clinics, trades, and shops that need something sturdy, not a template with the logo swapped.

Most small businesses don't need a platform. They need a site that answers the phone.

Services

Four things, done properly. Nothing dressed up as a department.

  1. 01

    New sites

From a blank page to something you can edit without calling for every comma. Design, build, and a short handover so the site doesn't depend on me to stay alive.

  2. 02

    Rebuilds

The site you already have, without the template smell. Same business, clearer pages, faster load, and a structure that matches how people actually ask for the work.

  3. 03

    Shops & bookings

Menus, appointments, and a small catalog. Enough to take the order or hold the slot — not a warehouse system you will never finish configuring.

  4. 04

    Care

A monthly retainer for edits, updates, and the odd emergency. The person who built the site is still the person who answers.

How it goes

Four steps, then it's yours.

  1. 01

    Listen

A call about the business, not a questionnaire about your favorite shade of blue. We leave with the pages you actually need.

  2. 02

    Shape

A written scope and a range before any contract. You see the structure on a page, then we agree what 'done' means.

  3. 03

    Build

Design and engineering in one pass. You review in the browser, on your phone, with the real words — not a slide of rectangles.

  4. 04

    Hand over

Launch, a walkthrough, and two weeks of fixes. Care is optional. Abandoning you the morning after is not.

Questions

Before you write.

Do you use templates?

A starter underneath, sometimes — never as the thing the customer sees. Layout, type, and the order of the page are drawn for the business. If a template already fits, I'll say so and you won't pay studio rates for it.

Can I edit it later?

Yes. Copy, hours, menus, and simple pages are yours. I don't lock the site behind a login only I hold. Structural changes are what care, or a small follow-up invoice, is for.

What do you need from me?

The offer in plain speech, a few real photographs if you have them, and someone who can answer a question within a couple of days. I can write from an interview if the page would otherwise stay blank.

Where do you work?

The studio is in Asheville. The work happens wherever the business is. Kickoff is a call. Reviews are in the browser, so you don't need to drive anywhere.
